Tinint, the winners of Hac Iaith 2024, M-SParc’s Language Hack, have started an exciting project to promote the Welsh language within the classroom through the use of technology. Thanks to their success in the competition, the team has had the opportunity to investigate and develop a quiz for schools, with the aim of encouraging children to use the Welsh language through technology.
Hac Iaith has been held every year since 2021, with funding and support from the Welsh Government and M-SParc extending the marketing and hosting. The challenge this time was to create a solution to promote more use of the Welsh language, especially within groups that may not use it every day.
Following the success of the popular digital quiz Cwis Bob Dydd, Tinint is developing a new version specifically tailored for children’s use in the classroom, ensuring that learning Welsh is fun and stimulating.
As part of the development process, M-SParc and Tinint have carried out research with focus groups from local authorities, and schools such as Ysgol Glan y Môr, Ysgol David Hughes and Ysgol Parc y Bont have participated, giving feedback and sharing valuable ideas to help create a Quiz that is useful, supports the new curriculum, and will be used on the classroom floor. M-SParc is working to bridge the skills gap in the region, and their work in the education and EduTech sector is expanding because of this. Alongside 3 specially created STEM and Skills workshops that tie into the curriculum for Wales and promote entrepreneurship, M-SParc and tenant companies are working on EduTech solutions to help children learn Welsh, and support Teachers to work within legislation using AI to support admin tasks.
