Introduction
We understand that our activities have an impact on the environment and are committed to continual improvement of our environmental performance and its alignment with our wider NetZero goals, accredited by the Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi).
We will not only seek to protect our natural environment, but also actively pursue opportunities to enhance it, promote a culture of environmental stewardship amongst our staff, tenants and partners and work towards the goals of sustainable development.
Net Zero 2030
For M-SParc, becoming Net Zero by 2030 is a leading principle, a further core principle is bringing our ecosystem with us on this journey. Our NetZero2030 plans were first launched in 2022 with the ambitious goal to be the UKs first science park to reach net zero. Since then, the Egni (Energy) team have been working to develop robust and comprehensive plans and begun actioning them. Our Net Zero 2030 targets are approved by the Science Based Target Initiative (SBTi) – an internationally renowned standardisation body – as meeting the requirement of the 2015 Paris Climate protocol, positioning us as leaders in the low-carbon transition. Our most recent Carbon Footprint from 2024 shows 154,115 kg Co2e which is a 19 % reduction compared to our 2023 baseline.

We will minimise our adverse environmental impacts by:
Ensuring compliance with all relevant legislation and obligations associated with our activities
Ensuring all staff are certified as carbon literate by delivering regular internal accredited carbon literacy courses
Reducing our contribution to global climate change by making year on year reductions in our greenhouse gas emissions
Promoting and increasing biodiversity conservation and improvement across the site
Minimising energy and water consumption on site through our ‘diffodd y sparc’ campaign
Managing waste through reduction, re-use, and the promotion of recycling
Promoting sustainable transport initiatives
Embedding sustainability within the procurement procedures
Undertaking to prevent the pollution of the natural environment
Embedding sustainable development and awareness of environmental issues in our work (internally and externally)

Tom used to work at the KFC in his hometown of Colwyn Bay before it mysteriously burned down. He then spent several years “on the lam” in East Germany, where he worked as an animator in Berlin. When the wall fell, Tom came home.
