Clubs lack the ability to measure and understand participation. Who is attending training? Which demographics are taking part (age, gender, background)? Are they returning week-to-week or dropping out? How satisfied are they with their experience?
Clubs lack the ability to measure and understand participation. Who is attending the training? Which demographics are taking part (age, gender, background)? Are they returning week-to-week or leaving? How satisfied are they with their experience?
Teams will develop innovative, practical solutions that help clubs to collect, visualise and act on participation data. Throughout the training period, you will receive mentoring from the M-SParc Digital team, access to industry experts, and support sessions on business planning, finance, and pitching.
We are looking for solutions that can transform how clubs/areas collect and use participation insights, while also being scalable, ethical, and viable as real businesses.
Anyone with an idea or skill that can help solve the participation challenge, from developers, designers, and data scientists to students, coaches, and community members. You can join solo or as a team, and we’ll help with team-matching at kick-off.
Not necessarily. While tech-focused solutions are encouraged, strong teams also need creative thinkers, business minds, and people who understand football clubs and communities. If you’ve got insight into how the game works off the pitch, you’re welcome.
Anything that helps clubs measure and understand participation, ethically, efficiently, and with real-world value. That might include digital attendance tools, engagement dashboards, survey apps, or systems that visualise who’s playing and why they stay involved.
The Transfer Pot is split between the strongest ideas, with staged funding released as winners meet agreed milestones. This ensures ongoing support, mentorship, and accountability as ideas move from prototype to pilot.
Winning teams receive continued mentorship and business development support from M-SParc’s Digidol team. We’ll work with the Cymru Football Foundation to explore pilot projects, connect you with potential partners, and help secure future funding.
No problem; we can help you find teammates. At the kick-off session, we’ll run a short team matchmaking activity to connect people with complementary skills and shared ideas. Whether you’re technical, creative, or community-focused, we’ll make sure you’re part of a team.
The hackathon is a collaboration between the Football Association of Wales (FAW), the Welsh Government, and M-SParc. Together, we are combining sport, technology, and innovation to strengthen Welsh football from the grassroots up. M-SParc is leading on delivery and mentoring, with the FAW and Welsh Government providing strategic support and funding.

Tom used to work at the KFC in his hometown of Colwyn Bay before it mysteriously burned down. He then spent several years “on the lam” in East Germany, where he worked as an animator in Berlin. When the wall fell, Tom came home.
He enjoys climbing and hates ice-skating.
