The programs and workshops below are intended to bridge the skills gap, and upskill the future. We can offer all of this for free, funded by M-SParc; this means that there is no obstacle for participation.
The development of literacy, numeracy and digital competence is at the core of the programmes, as well as a link to the local area to ensure that the projects are as relevant and current as possible for the children and young people. Each program includes constructive skills responding to elements across the learning and experience areas, taking into account the 4 purposes and what is important, including:
• Working in a team, solving problems and discussing ideas
• Forward planning
• Numeracy
• Analytical skills
• Art and planning
• Expressive Arts and life skills
• IT skills
These sessions are provided by former teachers, through the Welsh language. A very special offer, created because we are passionate about developing innovation.
Miwtini Bach was our first established programme in schools, and is currently paused as we focus on our other work.
In this programme, the intention is to give pupils in year 5 and 6 in Primary, or year 9+ in Secondary, an opportunity to test and develop entrepreneurship skills in an entrepreneurship challenge!
Often, this program supports and creates a change in the mindset of pupils who do not think of themselves as being academic. A large part of companies in North Wales are small businesses, so it is very likely that the pupils here will either work for a small company or start their own business. The skills from this program will be essential for their future.
The pupils will develop their own business and product by putting STE(A)M in the context of the world of work and beyond the classroom floor. They will create an idea, develop a business, build a plan and costs, design a prototype, and present their idea. The program comes to an end with the pupils ‘pitching’ their ideas in Dragon’s Den style.
Our Egni STEM program is a great opportunity for children and young people to develop a wide range of cross-curricular skills that respond to the requirements of the Curriculum for Wales. Following practical and educational sessions about climate change and their local area, the children will have the opportunity to redesign their village to be more eco-friendly and sustainable. They will learn about different sources of local green energy before working as a team to handle a budget and solve real-life problems and use CAD to create 3D maps before concluding the program by presenting their ideas in front of judges.

The Creative-Digital programme provides young people with the chance to become digital experts! Throughout these sessions, primary and secondary school students will learn all about the different stages of film production, to create their very own documentaries. They will work with cameras, sound equipment, lighting, and edit the film together, utilising music and foley. Additionally, they will learn how to market the films, preparing them to be shown to a wider audience.
Later in the year, the films will be screened at a local venue alongside other schools as part of an award ceremony, where industry professionals will be in attendance to celebrate the new filmmakers for their achievements in creating these short films.
Now with an annual turnover of £1.4 billion, the film and television industry is rapidly growing in Wales, and we need the next generation prepared with the skills to further develop this industry. Could you be one of them?
M-SParc’s Clwb Sparci is a unique Welsh language STEM club that offers a range of exciting activities each Thursday, to inspire children aged 7-11. From coding workshops and robotics classes to science experiments and maker sessions, we want all children to be able to access and enjoy STEM. Gofod is M-SParc’s after-school club for young people aged 12–16, building on the foundations of Clwb Sparci. It’s a space to explore more advanced skills in STEM and the arts, with hands-on projects that encourage creativity, innovation, and problem-solving. From digital design and coding challenges to engineering, media, and maker activities, Gofod helps young people develop the skills they’ll need for the future world of work. Join us to learn, experiment, and create in a supportive and inspiring community.

Emily has worked for M-SParc since 2018. Her previous role was at Bangor University, developing Welsh-language standardised tests for language disorders. Emily loves a graph, and would like them even better if they showed the closing of the skills gap in Wales, and a smaller gender pay gap in STEM. She works to achieve this by supporting M-SParc’s Marketing & Events, Outreach and Community work, and STEM & Skills projects.

Rhian is a STEM & Skills Officer with 13 years of experience in education and outreach communication. Currently, she delivers impactful STEM workshops at M-SParc and in schools to help young people discover their potential in science and tech. A mother of two, Rhian loves climbing and paddleboarding, finding adventure both in and out of the classroom.

Nia is a talented artist and designer, with a BSc in Product Design and Technology from Bangor University. Nia is usually found #OnTour in Bangor or Pwllheli, running workshops, inspiring people to start their own business, and igniting ambition in local communities.

Tom used to work at the KFC in his hometown of Colwyn Bay before it mysteriously burned down. He then spent several years “on the lam” in East Germany, where he worked as an animator in Berlin. When the wall fell, Tom came home.
He enjoys climbing and hates ice-skating.
