SparcX 2

AN INNOVATIVE CAREERS FAIR WITH IMMEDIATE RESULTS!

This Tuesday (5/12), we held our second ever SparcX careers event at M-SParc. As it’s also Wales Climate Week, the focus of the event was on career opportunities in the green energy and innovation sectors. Recruiting companies included M-SParc tenant companies and those from our wider ecosystem. Lafan Consulting, Westinghouse, Apollo Engineering, BIC Innovation, Animated Technologies, Tenet Consultants, UPS2, and Viridian Consulting showcased opportunities from marketing officers to engineers.  Interest was high, with 16 recruiting companies and over 50 job seekers.

When you see so many companies actively recruiting, often looking to fill multiple roles, it goes to show that there are, in fact, plenty of opportunities out there to build your career in North Wales.

“This event was a great success. The narrative you hear too often is that there are not enough local jobs, and that people have to move away to find work. But when you see so many companies actively recruiting, often looking to fill multiple roles, it goes to show that there are, in fact, plenty of opportunities out there to build your career in North Wales. There were jobs for designers, marketers, engineers, developers and more. The opportunities are there, and today, they were here.” – Pryderi ap Rhisiart, M-SParc MD.

SparcX differs from a typical job fair. The businesses attending were actively recruiting, and each got an opportunity to introduce themselves in turn to the room, as well as explain the types of roles they were hoping to fill. The jobseekers then had an opportunity to introduce themselves and their skills to a room full of potential employers. After the somewhat daunting introductions were out of the way, there was an opportunity for everyone to network, and this carried on for over an hour!

M-SParc also took the opportunity to announce in advance some rolls they will be advertising over the Christmas Period, including an #OnTour and Business Officer, and a Football Innovation Support Officer.

There were connections made today that are highly likely to turn into job opportunities, and many people are now likely to connect with careers and employability for support with their applications.

“SparcX was a fantastic networking event for students and employers, and a great way for graduates to learn about the wealth of opportunities available across the region. There were connections made today that are highly likely to turn into job opportunities, and many people are now likely to connect with careers and employability for support with their applications. Employers too learned that they can benefit from the Skills, Innovation and Talent scheme which will shortly be launched, following funding being awarded through SPF.” – Sian Shepherd, Graduate Support Project Manager – Skills & Employability, Bangor University.

With a lot of positive feedback from those who did attend, SparcX2 was an overwhelming success. SparcX3 will be happening at some point in 2024, but with the level of interest shown this time, it is sure to be even bigger and even better as the need is clearly there for network opportunities and unique career expos of this nature.
