M-SParc Survey 2024-25: Higher Wages, Equal Pay, and a Growing Focus on Community

M-SParc’s latest tenant survey shows average wages continuing to rise and the gender pay gap fully closed – the result of years of deliberate action. Alongside this progress, M-SParc is stepping up plans to strengthen community connections across the park.

The 2024 M-SParc tenant survey, carried out by Bangor Business School, shows that average earnings at the science park have risen to £43,542 – almost £8,500 higher than the Welsh average. This continued growth reflects the strength of the businesses based at M-SParc and its role in supporting high-value jobs in North Wales.

One of the most significant findings is the elimination of the gender pay gap. Women now earn slightly more than men on average at M-SParc (£43,571 compared to £43,529), outperforming national trends. This milestone follows several years of focused work after the gap was first identified in the 2020 survey, including initiatives such as the Time of the Month Club, gender-decoding job adverts, increasing the visibility of women at events, and ongoing awareness-raising across the tenant community.

New programme of tenant events launching to boost community spirit

Closing the gender pay gap didn’t happen by accident. We recognised the issue early on and worked intentionally with our tenants to address it. While this is a real achievement, we know there’s more to do. We want to see diversity in all its forms, and we want M-SParc to continue to be a place where everyone feels welcome and able to thrive.

The survey also highlights positive cultural indicators, with most tenants able to speak or learning Welsh – and only 23% not engaging with the language at all. Alongside this, M-SParc is now turning its attention to strengthening community connections, particularly among younger employees.

We survey our tenants every year, and while we always hope for positive results, it’s just as important that we’re challenged and can respond to those challenges. Engaging our younger tenant employees is a priority for us now. That’s why we’re planning a programme of regular tenant events and socials, shaped by our own younger staff, to support wellbeing, tackle loneliness, and strengthen community spirit at M-SParc. We look forward to seeing this reflected in next year’s survey.
